Has the term "professional" become a joke?

you cant even get your oil changed satisfactorily anymore. There doesnt seem to be any professionalism involved with many buisinesses anymore. No one seems to have any dedication or willingness to try to do a good job for what they charge for. The seemingly easiest tasks cant be performed with any reliablity anymore. I would rather go to an amatuer, than someone calling themselves professional, or better yet, just do it myself. Conscientious doesnt seem to be a job description these days.

I can answer that, but I agree! It seems like the experience demanded to get a job is going up, yet the quality of customer service most businesses provide is pathetic! Are people not getting paid enough to care anymore? Is our system so lawsuit-happy that businesses are afraid to punish/fire lousy employees? I remember when grocers would bag for you and take the groceries to your car - now you are even pushed into checking yourself out with some dumba** computer that makes so many mistakes a cashier has to come over anyway - then they act like you're wasting THEIR time! AAAARGH!
