Has this fashion trend has happened anywhere else or if it was just here?

So at my school we have to wear polo shirts as part of the uniform. It's always been the fashion to wear them unbuttoned and wearing them with the top button done up has been seen as sort of nerdy and no one ever did it. On top of this, no one ever wore polo shirts outside of school and doing so was seen as the ultimate crime against fashion.

Anyway, about a year ago this changed. First I noticed a few girls were beginning to wear their polo shirts with the top button done up. It wasn't long before all of the girls wore their top button done up. Now no one wears them unbuttoned. Even I do up my top button and I never follow fashion trends, but this one I like. Anyway, shortly after this everyone suddenly started wearing polo shirts outside of school to. Now it's rare to see a girl high school aged to early twenties (13-25ish) not wearing a polo shirt. Most of my friends never wear anything but polo shirts and I can't remember the last time I saw them wear something else. I own a few, but I don't wear them all of the time. Even my sister who a year ago absolutely hated polo shirts (and I mean HATED) now wears nothing else but them. Everyone wears them.

So anyway, I was wondering if this fashion trend has happened anywhere else or if it was just here? I'm just curious.
