Anytime anyone on here asks what a Mary Sue is, the vast majority of answers say something along the lines of, "Basically Bella Swan".
But the reality is, although Bella is a Mary Sue, there are far worse Mary Sues out there. For example, Nancy Drew, a far more famous literary character. But a lot of people think that as long as their character isn't like Bella - a damsel-in-distress self-insertion - she's not a Mary Sue.
Has Twilight led to people thinking that Bella Swan is the definition of a Mary Sue? And not really understanding what a Mary Sue actually is?
