have a bmw 318 2001 reg, heard a grinding noise followed by loss of power now...

...the car wont start, any ideas? any ideas what this fault could be?
engine mangement light came on and it was slowing cutting out now it wont start, cant give anymore info coz thats all i know at the moment, there is no water or oil leaks and nothing looks out of place under the bonnet
 
With those symptoms, whatever it is is going to cost you, I'm afraid. You need a mechanic to look at it.
 
I got one idea, save your money sounds like it's going to cost A LOT to fix
