Have these ideas been done in sci-fi yet?

1. The idea that we discover, in the fabric of our universe (either in the laws of physics, or in the positions that the matter in our universe takes, or something like that) a message from the inhabitants of the/a universe that existed before us.

2. The idea that after many generations of universes, the state of universes may in some way evolve, each universe being affected by the ones that came before it, becoming different, more complex, and resulting in new phenomena not yet seen in any universe before.

If yes, please direct me to the authors or sources. :)
Star Wars Fangirl: that's not what I'm talking about. I mean a species from before the existence of the universe as we know it. As in before the Big Bang, and possibly in a universe with different physical laws.

However, I have clearly not watched enough Star Trek. I should probably do that!
The point to these concepts is the idea that information can somehow be made to transcend an event that would supposedly destroy all information. (The end of the universe, maximum entropy, etc.)

(Just for clarity.)
