are they shaken by it? are you?

if you have older kids, was there an age where discussions of disasters started moving away from generalities and reassurances and into complexities and sharing your own reactions?
it does amaze me the things people see fit to make light of.

He's 4. No point in freaking him out at this age.

I have friends there I haven't heard from yet.
 
Tragedy isn't that significant to some people, (especially young people) unless it happens to them or there families. It is hard to be as sympathetic as we should be when our own lifes here at home have so many stresses.

Yes I got us some takeaway sushi and we sneaked it into the earthquake simulator at the science museum.
 
My daughter is 6 and she was watching the news with me. She said she hoped Jesus would help all the people there. My husband has family in Japan so she also said that she hopes all of our family is safe. She used to worry that any natural tragedy that happened on TV would come to us and we had to constantly reassure her we were safe and would limit what she would watch with us. She is now able to understand a bit more and show concern for others instead of just worrying about what might get her.
