Have you ever "invented" a religion?

I used to be Lutheran, looked into Catholocism, attended a Presbyterian church for many years, talked to Jewish friends, wondered about my Baptist neighbors...and after ALL that???
Here is what I think, in a nutshell..
1. There is a higher power at work, call it god/goddess. There are way too many things going on to not believe. Forget the whole evolution/creation stories, the truth is somewhere in the middle.
2. The Bible has some truth to it, there is evidence to support the "stories". However, the Bible did not arrive by fax from God/Yaweh/Jehovah/Bhudda or whatever you decide to call him/her. Mankind altered the stories to suit political/financial needs.
3. Way too much time is wasted arguing. More lives have been lost due to religious differences than all the wars and plagues in human history. What is really the point, after all? The higher power must weep...
4. Finally, I will leave you with two quotes. The first from the Wiccan point of view: "Do ye as ye will, if ye harm none". The second from Jesus Christ, " Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Note the similarities??

What I mean is, do you say you're a certain religion but still follow aspects of another? I'm Buddhist, but I like certain aspects of Taoism and Shinto as well. I derive my personal philosophy from many others that I agree with, I just call myself Buddhist because my most sure belief is in the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path.
