Have you ever noticed how some Christians complain about Atheists asking...

...questions that ridicule their beliefs And then you look at their profile and every single question they've asked is ridiculing either Muslims, Catholics, Mormons, or Jehovah's Witnesses? Is that the definition of the pot calling the kettle black?

What makes some believers in God so superior to others? And if you are this Christian, are Atheists better or worse than these other groups?

It happens in all forms of discourse. People seem particularly prone to accuse others of the very faults they are most prone to.

Take the Creationists. One of their common forms of "attack" is to say that evolution is a "lie"? Why this? Scientists may be wrong, mistaken, or whatever but they genuinely think evolution is true. It is not put forward as a lie, knowing or believing that it is false. Then you look at the Creationist literature, the quote-mining, the evidence-fudging and the downright lies. They are accusing the opposition of their own favourite "sin".

Maybe its because they cannot imagine acting in a way other than "X" and so believe that their opponents must be guilty of it too.

If you're an atheist and you don't keep your head down and only spoke when spoken to, and even then only to agree with the speaker regardless of what you think, you are "ultramilitant."

Atheists don't seem to be afforded the same allowances as theists in discussing religious matters. It's what comes of being a minority, I guess.

I do not ridicule so I expect the same in return. Is it that difficult for people to respect others beliefs? I guess so.

You know... I've made that same observation. The thing is that most Christians do not see themselves as hypocrites, or as people who try pressing their beliefs on others.

When someone is convinced that "their" way is the OneTrueBeliefâ„¢; they can rationalize all sorts of nutty irrational behavior.

This doesn't apply only to religion, but also most social sciences.

Believers in God are definately NOT superior to anyone else!
Just because we can try to stand up for what we believe in, doesn't make us wanting to be better than anybody. You have to admit, we take a pretty good beating! Our God is made fun of incessantly. Should we to just sit here and not say anything?
I fail to hear any Buddah jokes, or any devil jokes.
No, Christians have a big old bullseye on our backs!

they are in the habit of picking-and-choosing what to see and what to ignore.
extending it to their own behavior, and that of other members of the flock, is not a distant extrapolation.

each of the four groups you mention Three of which are supposedly christian anyway, are very much bent on the idea that their religions are best and the the rest of us are heathens in some way.

Meanwhile the Catholics are represented far too heavily by pedohiles while preaching sexual morals and intolerance of gays to everyone else. completely hypocritcal

Mormons are into polygamy which is just wrong because it creates an unnatural balance between men and women and destroys the bond of intimacy that comes from a one to one relationship

jehovahs witness are very simply a nuisance going door to door as they do and treating their kids the way they do.

while i hold no particular dislike for honest and decent muslims, soo much evil has been done recently in the name of that religion that its easy to see where all that anger comes
from.

True Christianity does require that we tell it like it is and spread the gospel of peace and good will but the intolerance is not appropriate.

We are told by Jesus not to judge others or we will be judged so if its any consolation they should all get theirs in the end

I have been there- ridiculing others for how they believe, but I know it's not doing me any good & it's hypocritical. I don't know why so many believers choose to poke fun at different beliefs. Most of the time I find Atheists to handle themselves better than those who are religious. Sure they can be sarcastic or snide, but I don't see the amount of rudeness coming from them as from some other groups.
