I'm going to have a party at my house soon, and we do NOT have a blue ray player. I don't own the movie we're going to watch, but I plan on either renting it from Charter on Demand, or from Amazon online. My question is, when I rent the HD version on Charter on Demand (for a couple bucks more), does that HD quality equal the quality of a blue ray player, or is it still less? Same for amazon. If no for both, is there some way I can, or will I have to borrow someone's blue ray player.

It will be a bit less do to bandwidth restrictions across the tv network. Also it depends if your tv receiver has high definition media out to your television. If it does it will be in HD and will be very clear to watch. I wouldn't worry about it.

It has been my experience that streaming video from Amazon in HD delivers a picture indistinguishable from Blu-ray.
