Help connecting DTV antenna to DirecTV?

Me and my friend have recently won 2 DTV antennas. My friend hooked it up(she has cable) and now she gets Korean channels. I've tried to hook it up to my DirecTV reciever box, and the only channel I can get clearly is 73. My friend has a DTV converter box, so do I have to get one as well? I live in California if that helps.
