So there has been a series of books that ive been trying to identify for a while now. I read them about 6-7 years ago. Ive outlined what i remember below. If you do know the books, i wouldnt be surprised if alot of what i say is off, but i know the gist is correct.
400+ page books.
At least 3 books in series.
Basic Information:
Main POV Character: A middle-age woman.
Other Main Characters: Her Husband. Another older guy.
Interactions between characters: The woman tries to come on to the other guy at certain points, but is put down. Both the husband and the other guy die in one of the later books.
Basic plot line (over a 3+ book span):
Seeing that a number of sentient races (humans among them) are slowly destroying themselves, a more advanced alien race has constructed a huge artificial spacestation where they are slowly preserving different species from different planets in each section of the spacestation. But this isnt your normal ship, the habitats are huge and reflect the home world of each species and are basically the 'ideal' for each of those species.
A human spaceship is either lost in space or is captured or somesuch and the people on board are destined to become the starting human population in this place. But humans being who we are, cant live in this ideal (yet entrapped) world and systematically break into surrounding habits (of other alien species) in an attempt to escape. Long story short, they finally escape in one of the books, and for some reason or another are brought back years later. The main character (the woman, now aged) finds that the aliens have created "children" from her eggs, and these kids are now in teens-twenties. She also realizes that in order to make the environment better for the kids, they have created a droid/robot with her mannerisms and younger looks to serve as a parent for these humans.
Any ideas? The name of the series might have a word starting with "o" in it.... not 100% sure tho.
