my fish did that about a year ago.
then he started swimming upside down.
after a couple days i came home and my mom said she flushed him.
if i were you, i'd put the fish out of his misery.

sorry. :-(

I have had a few betta fish too. My last one did the same thing and only ate if i tapped the glass. The next day he died. :( I'm sorry if it happens to your fish too

If your worried about his gills popping out like that, don't worry! Thats just his way of showing off, and flaunting what hes got! Bettas can be territorial, or agressive to other vibrantly coloured fish, or fish with long fins. This is just one of their reactions! I personally know that bettas ( no matter what the people at the pet store say ) do much better in bigger tank usually 5 Gallons would be about a good minimum gallon capacity. Your temperature is right, and just make sure that you have good water quality and filtration, and also provide movement at the waters surface, either with the filter itself, and air stone, or a power-head ( for bigger tank such as 20 Gallon ) Hope This Helps -Good Luck - Andrew
