Help with Blu Ray Player Purchase?

I have looked around on the net and read people saying the blu ray players wont play some blu rays because of profiles...(i dont know about this stuff) saying that with a ps3 you can update to play all blu rays but the normal sony or any brand of blu ray players will go out of style...I really just want a normal sony blu ray player...because this is for my living room..i dont play games much..But is going with a ps3 for a blu ray player the best way in the long run...or is a sony blu ray player...ok to go for......any info on the profile 1.1 thing and about the 2 players is appreciated thanks
So its going in the living room
i want it to last
and i will hook to to surround sound
