help with downloading ipad apps?

hi everyone. i just purchased the ipad mini and came across a problem. my computer currently isnt working, and so i was wondering is it possible to just go to the app store on my ipad, sign in with my apple id and download ? if that is possible, and i have a bunch of apps and pictures will all those get erased when i finally connect it to my computer and sync music ? please help !!
so what about pictures i take on the ipad ? when i sync my music on will they be deleted
 
All of your iTunes purchases are available to download again, free, with your Apple ID.
All you need is wifi or Cellular connection.
 
Yes you CAN download apps from the app store. When you sync though it might delete and install apps and music. When you sync just watch whats its doing and cancel the things you don't want to be synced
