Help with poem analysis?
Ok this is a poem by Rodney Hall.
THE PUBLIC TURNS TO ITS HERO
It was his feet we mostly saw,
gigantic boots with rumpled uppers ---
muffled drums upon our conscience;
or else the skirts of his overcoat
kniving like iron against his gaiters;
or else the muzzle of his carbine
casually against our temples.
Who could escape the fear of giants?
His shoulders tapered, almost lost
to view.
But worse was teh hear our prayers,
confessions, and our coward cries
whispering around his metal,
begging him to bend his face
smile and approve our emulation
He never did. And so we kept
our secret hope that long ago
some vaster hero had sliced his neck
and rolled away our single greatness
Could anyone explain this poem to me in english lol i dont really understand
Can you please tell me what parts represent patriotism in this poem.
Any particular techniques used, and how they relate to the concept of patriotism?
THANKYOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!
