help with sheltie that doesent know how to play with toys?

my two year old sheltie likes to play but doesent know how to play with toys i will throw the toy then he just looks at it and doesent do anything to it he is scared of squeakers and loud noises but i want to help him learn how to play with toys any ideas thnks to any helpful answers :)
