I had this same problem with my phone (no network coverage and battery cannot be charged as it is not sony ericsson) and went to a 3 store where the guy said it was a problem with the actual handset so he could send it off for me, but as the contract is in my mums name and i was at uni at the time i couldnt and still havent sent it away to be fixed.
I then started using her upgrade phone that she just hadnt started using yet, which is the same model, and in about 2 months have EXACTLY the same problem!!! dont have a USB wire here so cant see if the update will fix it, but will try that before complaining.
I know that I am not going to get the C510 ever again, and may even leave £ mobile as they have caused me many problems over the years!! ridiculous!!
