Today one of our cats was having kittens, she seemed to be having a hard time, and often she wouldn't do anything but lay with her eyes shut.

I thought she was going to die, so i made her wake up.

She had 4 kittens.

2 were born with the sack un broken, and they were already out just sill in the sack.

I sterilized a pair of scissors to cut the sack open to alow some air in, then i removed the sack, and the mother ate the after birth (which is normal). The secound time i hesited to cut the sack but the little kitten stopped moving and didn't look like he was breathing, the mother and i were both freaking out, so she was eating the after birth, and i was cutting the sack the kitten still wasn't moving the mother and i kept on and he finaly breathed and coughed, and there was some stuff coming out of his mouth then he started screaming, but the mother started to nurse him and he stoped.

It's been about 6 hours, and all the kittens are alive.

I was tryign to keep her calm, and for the most part in my experience of helping cats give birth she did excellent.
My question is, what should i of really done???

I didn't cut the cord, the mother ate some of it, and then it was still attached to the kitten.

What should i have done??

Sense it came out okay this time, if i need to should i do it again(like with other kittens to come)

I also want to know if a kitten comes out head first what can i do??

What other things should i have ready the next time kittens are born?

What are some good calm ways to help, if there is a problem?

I know i should of called the vet, or took her to the vet.. he is an hour away, and i didn't have time to call it was happening so fast i couldn't stop what i was doing to call.

thank you.
