A wise man comes to a fork in the road. He is trying to get to the village, and only one road leads to it, he doesn't know which one. At the fork in the road are two sisters, twins, one who always tells the truth, and one that always tells a lie. He does not know which sister is which. What ONE question can he ask them that will help him find the right road to the village?

He should ask either sister "Which way would your sister tell me to go?" The liar would point in the opposite direction, and the one that tells the truth, knowing her sister only lies, would point in the wrong direction too. Then the man would take the road that the sister DIDN'T point too.

You ask one sister, "Will your sister tell me this is the road to the village?" If she says no head that way, if she says yes take the other road.

There are four possible scenarios:

You ask the liar if her sister would say this is the road to the village, and you chose the wrong road.
The liar tells you her sister would tell you yes (a lie because the road doesn't lead to the village).

You ask the liar if her sister would say this is the road to the village, and you chose the right road.
The liar tells you her sister would tell you no (a lie because the road does lead to the village).

You ask the "truther" if her sister would say this is the road to the village, and you chose the wrong road.
The truther tells you her sister would tell you yes (the truth because her sister would lie to you).

You ask the truther if her sister would say this is the road tot he village, and you chose the right road.
The truther tells you her sister would tell you no (the truth because her sister would lie to you).

So you see, no matter which one you ask, if you get a no response go that way, if you get a yes response go the other way.

oh wow i this question was bugging me at first but this seems logical
the person should ask the following. "if i were to ask the other person, which way would he tell me to go?". If he asked the the truth teller, then the truth teller would say the truth, in that the liar person would lie and say the wrong way, so he would say the wrong way as well. So you would choose the opposite. If you asked the liar, since the truth teller would say the right way he must lie so the liar will say the opposite of that as well which of course is the wrong way. In either case they will both point to the wrong way. (Though for different reasons)
