My wife and I met online and before I met her I went on several dates with other woman. Please make sure you meet in a public place! A restaurant is fine, a mall, a park but it needs to be somewhat crowded. You never know someone can be very attractive in an email or phone call but be VERY creepy in person. However most people in online dating are great people I have no complaints.

You went on the website to find somebody that you could cherish your life with. I know its a cliche, but be yourself. If you're not, then it will be like falling for another person and its not fair to either of you.

I would say meet him. Be careful though, cause its online dating. Make sure a few friends know where you guys will be and maybe roughly when you're expecting to be back??? Then if something goes wrong... well hopefully that won't happen.

Meet at a public place... restaurant or some such. Arrive early and park in the back. Leave separately. The first date should always be security cautious. Don't exchange any information that can be used to track you. The first date is just to get to know each other. If he is a good guy, he will understand and respect that. If he doesn't respect this, then be very cautious.

What kind of tips are you looking for exactly? Definitely meet in a public place the first time, drive separate, and don't tell him where you live. If he is legit then he will want to be cautious as well.
