...Advice Please? We woke up on Saturday, only to find he had been sick on the bedroom floor, digested food. We thought maybe he was just a bit off colour so we left it until Sunday. Sure enough Sunday morning we found sick again which prompted us to book him into the vet. We got him an appointment yesterday. When we saw the vet, he had a thorough check, no discomfort in his tummy, colon was clear, no temperature, basically everything seemed ok and the vet couldn't find anything obvious. He gave us some special food to put him on and a syringe to feed him with, and also gave him a jab to settle his tummy. He also wasn't particularly dehydrated. He told us if he doesn't pick up in the next few days to take him back. Here we are a day later and yes he's improved in terms of drinking his water and also nipped outside for a wee wee! He has also stopped being sick. But... he his not enjoying his food at all through the syringe, wont eat on his own terms yet, and just wants to be left alone and very quiet. I know its only been a day since his vet visit but I just wondered if anyone had any advice on better ways to get him to eat and just generally perk him up. Or has anyone else's cat had this problem? Do Cats get tummy bugs like us? Any advice or information would be very much welcome.

Thanks all,

Dion

He's mad at you for taking him to the vet still and feeding him like that. Cats are weird and they do hold a grudge, I'm not sure why but they do. I am sure he'll be fine and yes they can get stomach bugs like we do, and colds.

Hi there dion, i have kept cats for thirty five years now, and have had quite a few with illnesses , i remember one cat that had symptoms just like yours, our vet told us as long as he was drinking this was fine because just like us if they get under the weather they go off their food, i would let him be for a few days and see as long as he's not sick and is drinking fresh water , he is mending in his own time and will start to eat when he feels like it, i hope i've been helpful and i hope gizmo gets well soon Best wishes.

cats do get sick just like we do, some indigestion or stomach bug might be the reason why he is feeling bad.
but he is fine as long as he drinks and goes to toilet. if he stops doing this THEN he is really sick.
relax and observe him, as long as things are getting better you juts have to let nature take its course.
it is also absolutely normal for cats to retreat when they feel bad, don't worry to much about it nor take it personal ;-)

i have a 7 year old cat named Gizmo and he has times where he wont eat and he pukes..the vet says not to worry and that it will happen.

Cats are pretty independent animals, he probably doesn't like being fed with the syringe.
My little baby had a stomach thing like this too, we took him to the vet and found out there was nothing wrong with him! So your cat probably has something different.
Also, when my cat gets back from the vet, he's quiet for a couple days and just sleeps and stays to himself - but in a couple day's hes back to normal!

at least hes getting better i dont think hes gonna get his health all back in one day so of course you may have to keep feeding it with a syringe give a few days, good luck

I'm pleased to hear that Gizmo has peaked up as for the syringe feeding think how you would feel if someone force fed you not good is it i would try a little food on a spoon and try to feed him that way it may take time but if he doesn't eat go back to the syringe

Cats don't like being fed with a syringe. That's why he's not enjoying feeding time. Don't worry about it though, because your vet knows what he's doing. It probably is just a stomach bug, or the food you fed on the nights he got sick just didn't agree with him.
As for why he's so lethargic, I can't begin to tell ya... There's so many possibilities. Once he's off the syringe food, take him back to the vet if he doesn't perk up.
Hope this helps!!!
