Hollywood Golden Age: Too Expensive?

I have heard that, considering inflation, it would be too expensive for studios to recreate Golden Age films today. Is this true? Are Golden Age films, like The Wizard of Oz, My Fair Lady, and Gone with the Wind, with their absurdly elaborate costumes and sets, too impractical to be produced today?
