Honda CRV vs. Jeep Liberty?

As a first car, which is better all around? I am looking at small SUVs that have 4WD, both would be used, probably a 2005 or a 2006. Please include details about comfort, gas mileage, and smoothness of ride of whichever car you prefer!
 
get the crv Honda's go for ever, i use to have a honda civic with 324k miles (i was in high skool and raced a lot in it!) and i sold it to some 16 year old and i seen him last week and it has 512k miles, on the orig. motor & clutch!!!
 
Ask a mechanic, Jeeps are notorious for breaking down, Hondas are low maintenance. Hondas have great resale value as well.
