how and why did human create so many religions?

if zeus, Quetzalcoatl, amaterasu, Jehovah, isis, and loki never existed in the first place, why did ancient human all around the world created religion?

is it the fear of death?
 
No its the influence of Satan.
 
to explain unexplainable things at the time. but as science progressed we found many of their explanations false.
