How and why is the European Earwig introduced?

I am doing an assignment on the european earwig (because it is an invasive species to Ontario). One of the requirements is; how and why this invasive species was introduced. However, i cannot find any information on how this species was introduced to North America. If you could please answers providing information on how this species was introduced to North America.
