My mom and I have both recently decided that I should start reading classic literature, and I've borrowed several books from the library, such as Frankenstein and works by the Brontë sisters, etc. I realize that coming from a different age these books' styles are different from what I used to, but no matter how hard I try about six out of ten sentences fly right past me. And not understanding the writing makes me not want to read it at all. I honestly do want to read classics to help be broaden my horizons, but it is really discouraging. How can I help my comprehension?
Also, if it helps, I've read and enjoyed Homer's Iliad and Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway.
