How can i change my microphone in my HP laptop out of "stereo"?

did you try somewhere here
Start>control panel>sounds, speech and Audio devices>sounds and audio devices>
 
for some reason that is the only option i get and i can't change it from the many things i have tried. no one on skype can hear me and it is because it is in stereo mode, but i have no idea how to change it back to a regular microphone. please help! thank you
