How can I convince my dad to get me a smartphone?

Alright, I'm a guy and I'm 15 and I'm a sophomore in high school. Ok I'm not one of those people where I just want to get a really cool phone since its the new thing. I'm more of a cellphone geek. I seem have this large interest in cellphones and technology in general and I get really excited about all the really cool things cellphones can do. But all smartphones now require data plans and such and that's where my dad gets all stubborn and such. He's the kind that hates paying for extra services. But its really apparent that I really like technology and that I'm a huge tech geek. Basically, technology is one of my greatest passions. And I'm also an honor student who gets a 4.0+ GPA. So I hate how I see dumb spoiled kids get nice cellphones and stuff while not appreciating it. The phone price isn't the problem. It's the extra services. So how can I convince him to get me a smartphone?
 
well your 15 so theres not too many job opportunities until your 16 so until you can get a job and offer to pay then you probably will have a hard time paying for it but he will probably want to see that you can hold a job and pay for it before actually getting it

you can also buy phones without service and use wifi enabled phones to access internet ;)
 
Get the phone with no extra services.
thats your first step.
Then think of way to get the extra services.
You can not do anything if u dont have the phone in the first place.
