How can i download faster on BitTorrent?

According to a few speed checkers my D/L speed is approximately 8MB/s. However when downloading using BitTorrent i only download at 2-5KB/s. I'm sort of new to using it but have most of the correct settings. At the bottom of the window it says "D:3.2KB/s T:9.7MB". I'm almost certain that has something to do with downloading. Please can i have some advice on improving/fixing my download speed.

Unfortunately most ISPs heavily restrict torrent traffic during waking hours, if you leave your computer on downloading overnight you will probably notice that your torrent speed suddenly peaks at a ridiculous speed about midnight and will continue on at that speed until morning.
