How can I enable my laptop touch pad?

The problem started right after I did my virus scan; I lost the function menu that use to appear on my desktop, that allowed me to enable my touch pad. And now nothing is appearing on my desktop, and I cannot even enable it through F9, which is the touch pad enabler key. I am really frustrated, and I do not know how to fix it. Any sort of help or input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Start Menu --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Mouse.

Check all the tabs and look for anything that mentions the touchpad. It's probably currently disabled. Should be as easy as checking a box to enable it and clicking OK.
