How can I find and buy a suv at an auction?

I have heard that it is better and cheaper to buy a car at an auction, but I don't how to go about this. Can someone help me and tell me how do I find an auction and how do I buy a car or truck there? I live in Glendale Heights, IL. I am looking for either an suv or mini van 2003 or newer at a good price. Thanks.

This is a great way to get a cheap car. It's also a great way to get someone's problem. Lots and lots of awesome, amazing cars go through auctions, these are usually purchased by dealers who sell them on their lots. Dealers also sell their culls at auction. These culls are trades and so on that dealers get in that are either too too unsafe or require too much work to sell on their lot to customers, so they send them away to auction.
So...if you are not in a position that you can afford to take a gamble like that or if you are not very, very knowledgeable about cars you might be buying up a whole lot of trouble.
