How can I get my own internet connection in a dorm?

I currently live in a dorm on a 1.5mbps connection. The only problem is the other people. They are constantly downloading pornographic media and doing other things that clog up our network. Sometimes it gets so bad, that I cannot even check my email. I am sick of having to deal with this.

I was told that if internet is important to me, that I should get my own line. I am wondering if anyone knows about how I would go about doing this? Can I continue to use the dorm hardware, but connect using my own signal? or would I need to set up my own hardware to get this to work? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
