How can I talk to a cop without being suspicious?

I am afraid to be friendly to a police officer or even say: “hi” because he/she might think I am up to something and start asking me all kinds of personal questions and ask me questions where I don’t know if the cop is on to me or if he wants to find out information about me. I feel weird around them and I try to keep to myself so what are some good things to talk about to a police officer?
