How can I un-sync my contacts from my Android phone (Comet)?

Every time that I try and make a new contact it always becomes synced in with my Google account. A while back I was able to create contacts while having the option to create them un-synced. But I no longer have that option anymore. What can I do in order to create my contacts so that they are NOT synced with my Google account?

I have a Comet phone that is running Android.
