How can you complain to your landlord in this situation without coming across as

a "troublemaker"? The people who live in the apartment on top of mine are having some kind of construction party that has lasted for the last week. What I mean by this is there is constant pounding, drilling, dragging things on the floor, and dropping things on the floor. It's usually in the mornings, afternoons, and then it stops until about midnight. Yes, MIDNIGHT. Right now its almost 1am and its still going on. I know for a fact there are "noise laws" so why hasnt anyone else complained about this? I don't want to be the only one who complains and come across as a trouble maker. Any suggestions?

It might be best to go talk to your neighbor about it first. A lot of times, getting the landlord involved first can make the problem worse. And as crazy as it may seem, there is a good chance that your upstairs neighbors don't even know what they're doing could be bothering anyone. My boyfriend and I were watching a movie at a very reasonable volume level late one night and our downstairs neighbor came up and asked us to turn the tv down. We had no idea it was loud enough for other people to hear it. And you could always tape a note to your neighbor's door asking them to quiet down, and that way they won't know who it came from. If they continue to make noise after that, THEN let your landlord know.

That's ridiculous. You are well within your rights to complain. I'd be more than a troublemaker in your shoes, I'd be pissed off, and so should you. The only other thing you can do is go complain to them in person, working that late in an apartment building is inconsiderate and ignorant.

Eventually the construction has to stop at some point.

You are within your right to complain. No one should have to live with that amount of noise day in and day out. Everyone is entitled to live in peace and quiet.

First, I'd check with the people upstairs to see how long they plan on "making noise." If it's going to be a while, then I'd talk to the landlord and see about moving to a different apartment in the same building, if one's available. Try to get a top floor unit, if possible.

Also, politely ask your neighbors if they could stop working around 9 pm. 5 pm would be better, but if they must continue to work, 9 pm is usually quiet time in apartment living.

Another thing is you could get a petition started and requets to the landlord that either the noisy neighbors move out or have a set time they stop working.

If there are noise ordinances, then calling the police is a good idea.
