I'm American but I'm not fooled, and I'm sick of talking to other people that claim they can't get into "soccer".
Other Americans say they don't understand the rules of football, simple you can't touch the ball with your hands unless you're the keeper. do you need help with what offsides means?
Baseball is better? Hardly! How do you pay millions to an overweight "athlete" that spends half the game on the bench waiting to go to bat? How is it Baseball players get injured from running bases? nobody is slide tackling you!
American football? Oh that's right it's a high scoring game! but what if we only counted how many times a player crossed into the end zone? You would have just as many nail biting 3-2 results as we do watching the world's game! And talk about rules? Every year the NFL owners get together to bring about new rules to screw some team that got shafted after they lost the championship game in the playoffs. How does the tuck rule feel Oakland Raider fans? Every down a flag is thrown now. almost every stadium has fieldturf. Don't want to get your uniforms muddy do you manly men? At least Rugby players don't wear pads and don't get me started on TV timeouts.
Personally I'm sick and tired of hearing that football will never get big here in the states. These are the same people that live in their own tiny little bubble connected to other like minded naives that follow NASCAR of all things.
Maybe if you talked to the Latino dishwasher that's having a cigarette break outside of your favorite restaurant or the "weird" European guy in accounting at work with "stupid scarves" hanging in his cubicle what's all the fuss over the World Cup and ask to watch a game with them, you would understand why we cheer or cry when our team wins or loses 1-0 during injury time during a derby.
Stop being convinced this game is "weak" because your local TV biased news channel doesn't show highlights.
