Mainly with their trucks and vans, every one of them I see on the road has fading and/or peeling paint problems, whats the deal?

That wasn't their fault, it was Uncle Sam. Back in the late '80's, Sam told all the manufacturers to start looking at water based car paints, instead of the solvent type they were all using, as an air pollution thing. Sam said it would be a couple of years until the law was changed, so he was giving them a head's up... About a year later, Sam changed his mind & said 'Let's do it NOW !'. Can't trust a politician to do what he says... So the manufacturers where forced to try new systems that were not yet proven, and you have seen the results... Meanwhile, the Japs continued to use the solvent based paints .....
