How come some people live to be 95 and never had a problem smoking and others live to only 50 and die terribly from it? are their certain genes involved? [ ex: my grandma died from lung cancer, age [53] all her other siblings NEVER got it and lived to their 80's! absurd....

The answer is simply that no two people are the same... and most people have at least heard of someone who smokes heavily and yet has never suffered any ill-effects. There are certainly people who seem to be able to "self-repair" cancers and pre-cancerous lesions a lot better than others... and as this greatly assists survival there is likely to be a genetic link passed from one generation to the next.

The great majority of smokers are putting their health at severe risk through smoking and as yet there is no way of identify those few who are likely to 'get away with it'.
