He is my direct subordinate who I have been grooming to take over my job. We are not friends outside of work. He has not many friends in this country outside of work so I am one of his best friends here I gather. His father passed a few months back and now his mother died back in his country while we were at work just now. I had no idea what to say then or later when he called to confirm it.
