Just to give you a little background - we are an Australian family. My dad who is deceased, had parents who were English. I used to find his style of humour hurtful as a kid &teenager, but now realise that a lot of my self-esteem issues have come about due to my sister always "having a laugh at my expense", from the age of 10 onwards. This scenario was encouraged by my father, then as soon as my sister left our household, after paying us a visit, I used to feel very angry & resentful as a teenager. Although no longer a teenager, I realised this on Christmas day at my mother's house, with my sister being in "fine-form". My friend has stated that this is called 'banter' & has similarities to say, the late Peter Coook/Dudley Moore/Goodies/Spike Milligan style of humour. After feeling like I was being attacked personally, I joined in with a 'reply', for the first time in my life. Any ideas on how to handle this in future?
