My cat is constantly in the fireplace (when it's not lit). She's two years old, if that's any help, so she's not a kitten. I don't know how to get her to stop going in there. I'm really scared my mom or my dad will start it up one day (it's a gas fireplace) and she'll be in there and she'll die. Or that she'll go in there when the fire's burning.

How do I get her to stop going into the fireplace? Any ideas?
We have a fireplace screen but it's just mesh wire and the cat's figured out how to get through it... also there's a flimsy glass cage but it's easy for her to push through and also my mom needs to leave it open most the time so the fireplace can air out (we use it alot, it's cold in the fall where we live!)
Thanks for the people who gave me SERIOUS answers...

Get something cats hate the smell of, such as vicks or garlic-water or something..
Spread it on the inside walls of the fireplace. Or, as suggested.. Get a fireplace screen..... IF your parents allow it.
