how do i get my recorded sounds as a ring tone on my lg shine(not touch)?

It says that they are AMR files and it will not let me set it as my ring tone, it seems that it only lets mp3 files set as my ring tones. How can i get it to set as my ring tone?
It's on of those 'free' phones you get when you make a family plan i got it about a year ago.
