You might have a virus. If not, go to Control Panel -> Display and change your screensaver manually. Xvid is a nice codec to have.
 
I was sufferd in the same problem and i whenever i install the new codec ot's not delete from the Add Remove program so i am telling you my way what i have done you should try to close all applications from your computer and then restart your computer and try again if not working agauin then you must be reinstall your computer's windows because this is the last solution for you no other one else...
