How do I know the color code to hotwire my 72 c-50 chevy log truck ?

I cut the wires and we have 1 purple 2 reds 1 tan pair and one blue Geesh I thought I was looking for a ground also am I not? Can I just twist all the wires together and then just know I've got to decide which one is the starter to unhook once it starts?
