I download torrents from time to time, and I want to know if there's a way to know which files are not in breech of copyright laws, because if there is no way to tell, how are these sites allowed to house all this copyrighted material and offer it to the public for free without punishment?

who cares m8!! they r free. if anybody is going 2 get punished it will be the site hosts, NOT you lol so download away. dont listen 2 the killjoys m8. i download about a dozen torrents a day on average with no problems. here a link 2 a good torrent list http://torrent-finder.com/ REMEMBER the internet is all about sharing information. thats why it was originally built. if the copyrighters dont like it! then tough lol

Unfortunately, you can count on the HUGE majority of torrents are copyrighted. If you recognize the name of the product, it is almost definitely copyrighted.

Pay money for the crap you need. It's a WHOLE lot safet that way!!

The "sites" you mention only provides torrents which is a very small file. The actual video is in people's computers in their homes.

People do get punished when caught but it's a small number. With modern technology, it's pretty easy to copy any audio/visual recording these days and society has not worked out a solution to the problem.

As for copyrighting, the vast material being torrented is copyrighted. Even TV shows, documentaries and the like have copyright protection. If you are truly worried about copyright issues, my advice to you is to not download using a torrent program.
