How do I make Chinese characters appear on the Internet browsers???

I have Chinese homework that I have to do on the Internet, but it won't show the characters! I need to print out the results and the grade has to be 80% and that would be hard if the characters won't show. How can I make sure that the characters show?
Also, I'm learning Mandarin and when I tried adding it, I didn't know which one to add.
i just tried adding chinese on control panel and on mine there is no chinese!
what are some good programs in which you can type Chinese?
