"What was that?" asked Mel. Her lip curved and she grabbed onto her pant pockets.
"I-I don't know..." I brushed Mel's body as a neared the tall weeds. I turned my head and looked at her. Her eyes were on mine and she bit her lip. I didn't realize I was shaking until I waved to her. I grinned my stupid grin. God, what an idiot! My body felt a wave of coldness go through me; I looked to my left and saw nothing but weeds, I turned to my right and she the old Boswell railroad. I neared the weeds. I swallowed hard and parted the plants. My eyes grew wide as saw it... It was huge.
"Run... Run..." My voice was trapped in my throat, I felt a ball of ice in the pit of my stomache. "Run!"
I turned towards the creature and felt a shot of pain go through me. I felt to the ground, "huhh...huhh" I lost my breath. I crawled to my feet, "Get up! Get up! GET UP!" I jumped ot my feet and ran.. ran... ran... "Run. Run. Run." I repeated. I heard nothing behind me as I ran through the thick terrain, jumped over coyote dens and climbed the chain lindens. My heart beat was so loud I could feel it in my eyes. My ears turned red hot.
"Josh! Hurry up!" Everything became a blur as a jumped into the back seat and Cary closed the door behind me. I couldn't tell you the relief I felt as soon as the door was closed. Mel started the car, "Sh*t! What's--" the car shook. My nightmare wasn't over. The creature looked me in the eyes. It was dark brown with two eyes. It looked like half human half lizard. The car lifted up and collapsed I closed my eyes for a quick second. All the screaming stopped, the rocking stopped, everything stopped. When I opened my eyesI was alone. It was dark. I felt a pair of claws grab my ankles, "No! No! Get your fu*kin" hans off me!" I grabbed the side handle of the car but it was so sticky and wet I slipped. I was dragged out of the car. Realization hit me, I couldn't get away. I was tired. I gave up.
"Josh. You okay?" I opened my eyes. Dee was at my side. I got to my knees and stood up. The ice ball in my stomach was gone.
"What happened, Josh?" The words didn't come out. I looked at him and vovomited. How had I survived?
