Im going on vacation from tomorrow to thursday and i was wondering how you can make sure your fish will be ok. Ijust bought one of those vacation feeders that dissolve and stuff but is there anything else i can do to make sure they wont die. I have a rainbow shark, a tiger barb(one died over vacation last year, the other one was recently bullied to death), 2 peppered corys, a skunk loach, an albino pleco, 2 rosy barbs, a blue gourami, a farlowella, and a leopard danio(other 2 mysteriously disapeared). is there anything else to do to make sure my fish dont die when im gone?

If you are going to be gone only until Thursday, I wouldn't worry about the fish at all. You have a good filter and heater on the tank, right. Most fish can go for up to 3 weeks without eating and survive.

I regularly leave my fish for a week at a time and they are fine when I come home. The only ones I have someone feed are the babies (fry). They need to be fed multiple times, daily.

I, personally, don't trust those vacation feeder blocks. Some of them are made with plaster of paris that degrades in the aquarium. I don't like putting any kind of crap like that in my tanks.

I think the fish that died last time you were on vacation was just a coincidence and nothing to do with you not being there.

However, with all that said, the rainbow shark and the tiger barb (especially with only one in the tank) can get aggressive. Tiger barbs need at least 5-6 to keep the aggression within their group.

do your partial water change. Make sure that everything is working fine. Actually,o longer then you'll be gone, the fish would be fine without the block. I've used those for longer time away, but your just going to be gone a few days. i would feed normally right before leaving and then when you return. But if your afraid not to leave them fed, then use a small block, so it doesn't foul the water too much. Other then that, there isn 't much else to do. do not leave the tank light on. If it blows and no one is there? Just maybe leave a window shade halfway up or something.

They have food tablets for a certain amount of days. you could get two two day tablets or a four day. you simply drop them in the tank and the fish will eat off of it. that is what i have done whenever i go out of town and i always come back to happy and healthy fish :)
