I'm supposed to use different words and restate it ..

What's a hot shot exactly? Do you think a person that fails almost every class is a hot shot? I don't think so. He doesn't have confidence in himself, so how can anyone without confidence be a hot shot? Our main character; Holden himself stated that he wasn't a hot shot on numerous occasions and he doesn't consider himself one. He fails classes, has grey hairs, is desperate for a girl that only mentioned him once in a conversation ( Jane Gallagher ), got into a fight with the ultimate epitome of a hot shot - Stadlater.

how can I do that without being obvious?

you have to put everything in the past tense.

what was a hot shot ... don't you think ...

Holden himself had stated ...

OK I'm big on English and at least you wrote it here so I didn't have to go to your blog or something to hunt it so I'll help...

Here's your problem. You asked great questions in your introduction BUT you answered them there too! (The summary of the answers is the Conclusion you're looking for) You need to subtract the answers but leave the questions in your intro.

Insert the answers in your conclusion. From the part where you said the main character "himself stated" ... that is the conclusion part! You asked the questions to start with... you fill in the details in the middle AND He ended it with some answers himself!

Hope that helps!
