How do i send a parcel in the post in the UK?

This may seem like a really stupid question but i've never actually sent a parcel in the post before! Ive wrapped the item up in bubble wrap, and then put in a box, what do now!? Do i address the box, then take it to the post office to be sent?! Or do i take it to the post office, then they weigh it and address it there?! Ah im such an idiot, please help!
